Tinley Park resident Patrick H. McKernan is retired from AT&T after 31 years in marketing and finance, but has launched a second career as a financial advisor. His background includes director of a local community’s planning commission for several years, as well as 15 years as director of a large credit union. He has served as president of his homeowners association and was president of a large retired telecommunications employee charitable organization.
“I have been very fortunate in my life and this is one way I can give back to my community,” says McKernan, who has been involved with Together We Cope as donor, volunteer and board member for 11 years.
“I wish I could say that someday there might not be a need for an agency like TWC, but unfortunately I don’t see the need diminishing very soon. Requests for help might slow down at times, but the need will always be there and I do what I can to see that TWC will always be there too.” He said it is encouraging that many of TWC’s clients need only temporary help until they can get back on their feet after a setback like job loss or illness. “I’m glad we are here to give them that helping hand when they most need it,” he said
McKernan and his wife, Mary, have four children and 13 grandchildren. His hobbies include spending time with those grandchildren, as well as reading and travelling.
