Diane KaffkaDiane Kaffka has been a volunteer at Together We Cope for over three years.  Because of to her computer knowledge, she began helping out with various problems we were having with our computer system.  Diane suggested a database be used to keep track of Together We Cope’s clients and began working on this project.  This past July the program was implemented.  The new database greatly reduces the amount of time required to input and maintain client files and history.  While there are still minor details that need to be worked out, the process has been a great success with the intake workers.

Diane has worked as a mechanical engineer at Panduit Corp. for over twenty-five years.  She and her husband, Chuck, have been married for fourteen years and live in Tinley Park.  Chuck works as a substitute teacher for the local school district and is a part-time teacher and full-time dad to their two sons, Sam (11) and Alex (9).

In addition to her volunteer time at Together We Cope, Diane has been instrumental in working with the employees at Panduit to get gifts for Together We Cope’s “Adopt A Family” program (also known as the Adopt-A-Child program).  Over the last couple of years, she and her fellow Panduit co-workers have contributed over 100 gifts each year for our clients.  Diane says she is thrilled to help with such a wonderful program not only because it delights the children but also because it helps relieve some of the stress on the parents.

In her spare time, when not working or volunteering at Together We Cope, Diane enjoys working with and performing in community theatre.  As a matter of fact, she and her husband, Chuck, met while they were both involved in the drama group at South Suburban College in South Holland.  Diane maintains the South Suburban College web site and helps with their publicity.  She also helps with set design, make-up, sewing, sound crew and props on many theatre productions.  Diane works wherever she is needed, and has even made a life-size light up pumpkin coach for the production of Cinderella.

When asked why she donates her time at Together We Cope, Diane replied, “There are so many people in the area that are just down on their luck and need a little help.  If what I can do helps someone, then I’m doing a good thing.  It’s a way of giving back to the community.”  She then adds, “It’s fun just getting to know all of the great people here.  It’s a cast of characters, that’s for sure.  They all have a drive to make this agency a success and an efficient business that will serve the clients.”   We at Together We Cope think it is great to have Diane as part of our production… just one of our “special cast of characters”.
