Anne Brandt of Palos Heights and Dianne Peloso of Tinley Park have been given top honors as winners of the Theodore H. Reimer Jr. Volunteer of the Year award for their outstanding service in two of the agency’s biggest projects. The award is presented annually to volunteers whose care and compassion most exemplifies the spirit of the late Mr. Reimer, a longtime board member and friend to Together We Cope. The awards were given to Anne and Dianne during the agency’s annual Volunteer Luncheon in December.
Brandt and Peloso are the volunteer organizational forces behind Together We Cope’s fall Back-to-School program and Adopt-a-Child Christmas program. They plan, shop, sort, organize, package and deliver the thousands of items collected annually in these two programs for south suburban children in need. Both women are retired from successful careers, Anne as a speech therapist in the public school system and Dianne as a secretary with the Illinois State Police.
Executive Director Kathryn Straniero said volunteers are the backbone of the agency and bring with them deep experience in many fields. “Our volunteers are critical to our operation, and we could not accomplish what we do without them. But the best part is that they are such fun to work with, and they light up our operation,” Straniero said. |
