Keeping the shelves filled

pantry_picTogether We Cope’s food pantry is experiencing a post-holiday dip in its stock, particularly in bread and bakery items.

TWC officials said this is a common occurrence after a generous outpouring from the community during the holidays. While that is greatly appreciated, they said, donations are needed to continue feeding the nearly 300 families who rely on the pantry for groceries each week.

TWC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency that provides temporary assistance to families in crisis from 22 south suburban communities.

In addition to bread, the pantry especially needs the following items at this time: peanut butter and jelly, canned tuna, soup, macaroni and cheese, and personal products such as shampoo and toothpaste.

To conduct a food drive to benefit TWC, contact Carol Ettema at (708) 633-5040. To bring food donations to the pantry, visit the agency (at the rear door) at 17010 South Oak Park Ave. in Tinley Park on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon.
