“Please tell everyone at Together We Cope how grateful I am to finally be in a home and how much it means to me to be able to cook a real meal for my family.”
After a marital separation, Lori found herself hopeless and homeless. With income from a part-time job and no child support, Lori and her two children, Brianna age 15 and Tyler age 12, lost their home. For 2-1/2 months the family lived in a one-room hotel room. All the family had left were items they could squeeze into the tiny hotel room because all of their furnishings had been auctioned off because of Lori’s inability to pay the storage fees.
After years of marriage to an irresponsible spouse who mismanaged the household money, Lori’s credit rating was less then perfect, making it difficult to find an apartment. Lori’s focus was to keep her children in the schools where they were established and luckily found a one bedroom house within walking distance of the children’s school.
Lori found a second job and with the help of the St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. Damien Church and Together We Cope, Lori was able to get her family into a home. Lori will continue to use the TWC food pantry and her children have been added to the Adopt a Family list for Christmas presents.
Smiling faces greeted Together We Cope intake worker, Kathy Rogge, as she paid the family a visit on their first full day in their new home. Lori told Kathy she was so thankful that finally she was able to cook a real meal for her family. The family is looking forward to better days ahead. |
