From the Director
Portrait of Kathryn StranieroAs the Executive Director of Together We Cope, I care very deeply about all who come to us for assistance in their time of crisis.  In this section, I will highlight the needs of our community and some of the accomplishments of Together We Cope as expressed to me by those families we assist.  Please remember that you are the support for those families and for our community.  Every day and in every way we all make a difference by helping those families in need.  Please send me a note to let me know what we can do to assist families in your neighborhood.  Please email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Together, we surely have coped with every challenge that confronted us over the past few months. Unfortunately, we were witness to rapidly growing needs in our southland communities as the economy continued to deteriorate, bringing job loss and home foreclosure to many residents.  But, as has been our experience always, the community stepped up and supported us in our mission to aid our neighbors in crisis. Our partners in this mission were particularly vital during this past holiday season as they provided Christmas gifts to 1,000 children in need and helped keep the heat going during a brutally cold winter.

There are many numbers that tell the story of that support: dollars donated, volunteer hours worked, grants earned, food and clothing given. Our staff used those resources creatively to meet the needs of a growing client list, as client and counselor walked together on the path to self-reliance. The ability to be self-supporting is the ultimate goal of all those we serve, and we protect their dignity throughout that quest.

We continue to partner with other organizations to expand our services in counseling, housing, food, clothing and emergency funds. As the lead agency in our Families First program, we rely on those partners as we join to assist our neighbors turning their lives around by making meaningful changes.

Perhaps it is the “Together” in our agency title that was most meaningful during this period. It is our partnership with our community - individuals, organizations and businesses – that gives us the strength of purpose to face the coming year with hope and confidence.  As we look forward, it seems the two most often used words in our language are still the only ones that can express our feelings: Thank You.
