From the Director
Portrait of Kathryn StranieroAs the Executive Director of Together We Cope, I care very deeply about all who come to us for assistance in their time of crisis.  In this section, I will highlight the needs of our community and some of the accomplishments of Together We Cope as expressed to me by those families we assist.  Please remember that you are the support for those families and for our community.  Every day and in every way we all make a difference by helping those families in need.  Please send me a note to let me know what we can do to assist families in your neighborhood.  Please email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Chatting with my big buddy Hubert the Harris Lion at our August Back-to-School Bash, I silently gave thanks for all the good friends Together We Cope has made over the years.  Harris Bank was a major supporter of our campaign this year.

Some generous patrons have stood by us through all of our ups and downs.  Many do it quietly and with no fanfare or publicity. Take Nu-Way Disposal, for example. They provide a major service for us from the goodness of their hearts, and never mention it. I couldn’t begin to list the stores that regularly stock our food pantry, or local businesses that donate to our various programs, or churches that run food drives, or community organizations that sponsor children at Christmas.  They do it very quietly, very much from the heart.

I feel privileged to know people with such pure hearts.  I got to meet the Girl Scouts who cleaned out their treasury to buy tuna fish for the pantry when we were out of that commodity, the elderly woman living on Social Security who gave us $10 “to help the little children,” the mom and dad who gave us half of their Christmas budget so we could provide for children they don’t even know.

There is a beautiful Polish tradition of setting an extra place at the Christmas table for an unknown stranger. Born in the belief that nobody should be alone at Christmas, this tradition dictates that someone in need be seated at the table and share in the holiday bounty.

I am thankful for all of our friends who help Together We Cope provide for unknown strangers throughout the year, and I send my sincere wishes to you for a warm and joyful holiday season.
