Before coming to Cope, Pat owned a daycare center and worked part-time in retail merchandising at Kohl’s, later dissolving the daycare venture and going on full-time with Kohl’s where she gained experience in merchandising and customer service.
That experience came in handy years later when she became manager of Together We Cope’s resale shop, The Sensible Shoppe (now known as the Nu2U resale shop), in 2005. Initially, Pat worked in the shop as a volunteer. “Because of my retail background I was asked if I would join the staff,” Pat recalls. “It took me about three months to come here semi-full time and go to Kohl’s part-time,” she said, “and I liked the resale shop job because it gave me much satisfaction helping people in need.” Pat has been touched by the people she’s met at Together We Cope. “The person who, to this day, leaves a lasting impression is one of our very dedicated volunteers. He never complains, always is there to lend a helping hand and he would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. His attitude is always positive, “The best thing about my job is the people. It is not very often that you can come to a job you really enjoy. Everyone here is so thoughtful and caring, it makes your job enjoyable,” she added. |
